FAQs

Press-Ons

Are press-ons better than full sets?

How long do press-on nails last?

Press-ons can last anywhere from a few hours to 2 weeks! It depends on your application method and lifestyle.

Are press-on nails reusable?

Honēd's nails are reusable!

In general, press-on nails are often reusable depending on the type and quality. (Think Honēd nails vs. nails bought from the drug store.) With proper care and removal, such as using nail adhesive tabs or non-damaging nail glue, press-on nails can be reapplied multiple times, extending their lifespan for several uses. However, factors like the type of adhesive used and the condition of the press-on nails after removal can affect their reusability.

Can I shower or swim with press-on nails?

Yes, you can! It truly depends on your application method. While press-on nails can withstand brief exposure to water, extended immersion in water, such as swimming or long showers, may weaken the adhesive and cause the nails to lift or come off prematurely if adhered improperly. It's generally recommended to avoid prolonged water exposure to maintain the longevity of press-on nails.

Cuticle Oil

What is cuticle oil and what does it do?

Cuticle oil is a moisturizing product specifically designed to nourish and protect the skin and nails around the nail bed. It typically contains a blend of natural oils such as jojoba, almond, or avocado oil, along with vitamins and sometimes essential oils.

When applied, cuticle oil helps to soften and hydrate the cuticles, which are the thin layers of skin surrounding the base of the nails. This softening action makes it easier to push back the cuticles and maintain healthy nail growth. Additionally, cuticle oil helps to prevent the cuticles from drying out, cracking, or splitting, which can lead to painful hangnails and other nail problems.

How often should I use cuticle oil?

The frequency of using cuticle oil can vary depending on individual needs and lifestyle factors.

A general recommendation is to use cuticle oil at least once a day, ideally before bedtime. This allows the oil to deeply penetrate and moisturize the cuticles overnight when the body is in a state of repair and regeneration.

For individuals with very dry or damaged cuticles, we recommend using cuticle oil after you wash your hands. Those with naturally healthy cuticles may find that using cuticle oil a few times a week is sufficient for maintenance.

Ultimately, it's essential to listen to your body and adjust the frequency of cuticle oil application based on how your cuticles and nails respond. If you notice improvements with more frequent use, continue that routine. Conversely, if you find that daily use is unnecessary or causes any adverse effects, you can scale back the frequency accordingly.

Can cuticle oil help with nail growth?

Cuticle oil can indirectly support nail growth by promoting healthier nail beds and cuticles, which creates a better environment for nails to grow. By keeping the cuticles moisturized and preventing them from drying out or becoming damaged, cuticle oil may help minimize nail breakage and splitting, allowing nails to grow longer and stronger. However, while cuticle oil can enhance the overall health of nails, its direct impact on accelerating nail growth is limited, as nail growth primarily depends on factors like genetics, diet, and overall nail care routine.

When is the best time to apply cuticle oil?

The best time to use cuticle oil is before bedtime, as it allows the oil to deeply penetrate and moisturize the cuticles overnight, aiding in repair and regeneration. Additionally, applying cuticle oil after washing hands or completing tasks that may dry out the cuticles can help replenish moisture and protect against damage.

Can I use cuticle oil on artificial nails?

Yes! Please, abeg.

Applying cuticle oil around the base of artificial nails can help keep the surrounding skin and cuticles moisturized, preventing dryness and promoting overall nail health without harming the artificial nails.

What are the key ingredients to look for in cuticle oil?

Excellent question! The key ingredients to look for are any combination of the following:

  • Vitamin E Oil (Provides antioxidant properties that protect the skin and nails from damage and promote healing.)
  • Tea Tree Oil (Antibacterial properties)
  • Jojoba Oil (Helps to moisturize and nourish the cuticles without leaving a greasy residue and mimics sebum, which is naturally produced by your skin.)
  • Sweet Almond Oil (Rich in vitamins and minerals, it softens the cuticles and promotes healthy nail growth)
  • Avocado Oil (Deeply moisturizes and nourishes the cuticles, helping to prevent dryness and cracking.)
  • Grapeseed Oil (Lightweight and easily absorbed, it helps to moisturize and protect the cuticles.)
  • Essential Oils (e.g. eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree, or lemon): Adds fragrance and additional benefits such as antimicrobial properties or soothing effects.)
  • Also, but not limited to, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Extract, Argan Oil

These ingredients work together to nourish, moisturize, and protect the cuticles, promoting overall nail health and strength.

Can cuticle oil help with dry, cracked cuticles?

It certainly can, but if you have a condition like eczema or other skin problems we recommend you consult a dermatologist or doctor.

Keep in mind that regular use of cuticle oil can improve the overall appearance and health of the nails, making them look smoother, shinier, and less prone to breakage. It's particularly beneficial for those who frequently expose their hands to harsh conditions or use drying products like nail polish remover.

Overall, cuticle oil is an essential part of a nail care routine for maintaining strong, healthy nails and promoting beautiful hands.
